"White Lotus Blossom"

7" x 5" Watercolor on Paper
SOLD
"A Painting A Day"

The Lake County Haven

The spiritual qualities of the lotus flower have found their way into Egyptian legends, Indian culture, and even Western faith. This is not surprising as the lotus flower is a potent symbol that grows strong and beautiful from the murkiest depths. The white lotus symbolizes a pure body, mind and spirit. The white lotus is meant to represent life, new beginnings and the possibility of a person growing to change into something beautiful.

This seems an appropriate subject for today's painting and a fitting metaphor for the homeless women and children helped each day by The Lake County Haven. Many of The Haven's clients are victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. Others are addicted to alcohol or drugs. Most are grappling with serious physical and mental health issues. Nearly all are unemployed, underemployed, heavily indebted, and/or unable to pay rent.

Custom Mat & Framing is included when
a bid meets or exceeds the "Buy It Now" price listed.
11" x 9" Black Chelsea frame with 8 ply white mats.
I have always been interested in the mythology, symbolism and meaning of flowers and it is a theme that I will continue to explore.

This painting is going to become one of a series of three painting that details the chronology of the white lotus: first blossom, then full flower, and finally, seed pod. It is fascinating to observe a plant as it grows and transforms throughout its life cycle and I hope you will enjoy the little visual journey I have planned in the coming days.
